“ Dance is Our Passion, Our Culture, Our Life “
NCPA's Impact
Through the years, Natraj has enriched the community by sharing the art of dance and culture through various projects.
Diwali Parade (Liberty Ave)
Every year, NCPA takes great pride in sending our senior groups to participate in the Diwali Parade on Liberty Avenue in New York. This annual tradition is a testament to our commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and sharing the vibrant spirit of Diwali with the broader community. By performing in this prominent event, we honor our heritage and contribute to the rich tapestry of New York’s cultural landscape.
Natraj Graduation 2024
At the end of the second semester at NCPA the students who have completed our school year will demonstrate their newly found skills by performing their classical or film dance. Furthermore, students receive trophies/medals for their accomplishments.
Radha Nachegi
Natraj's second play, Radha Nachegi, is set in a modern era and follows a young girl named Radha, who idolizes the divine love between Lord Krishna and Radha.
As she grows, Radha tries to emulate her namesake, hoping to find her own Krishna. However, in her journey through contemporary love, she faces the challenges of modern relationships—misunderstandings, heartbreak, and personal growth.
Through Bharatnathyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Folk Dance this play goes through her journey. Through these trials,
Radha learns that love is not just about devotion but also self-discovery, realizing that true love begins with accepting and valuing herself.
Urvashi
Natraj's first play, Urvashi (2013), is set during the opulent and culturally rich Mughal era of India. The main character, Urvashi, is a gifted dancer whose life is transformed when she receives a divine boon from Lord Shiva—the gift of unparalleled mastery in dance.
The play beautifully captures Urvashi's journey as she rises to prominence through her performances. However, her journey is not without challenges. As a dancer from a lower class, Urvashi grapples with the societal constraints and classism that pervades the Mughal court.
The audience witnesses not only her artistic brilliance but also her internal struggles and societal tribulations. The play poignantly explores themes of love, class divisions, and the power of art to transcend societal barriers. Urvashi’s story is one of perseverance, as she confronts the expectations of her time while staying true to her passion and heart.
